Dr. Fred Matiangi(Born Fred Okengo Matiangi) is a Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Security. He found the office on 7th July 2017 on acting potential after the sudden Death of Gen Joseph ole Nkaissery, making him take two cabinet positions at the same time, that is in the ministry of Interior & defense and Coordination of National Government and ministry of Education, Science and Technology. He took up the full post of cabinet secretary for Internal Security and Coordination of National Government subsequent to being appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta in January of 2018 in the president’s second full cabinet appointments. On the date, 22nd of January, President Uhuru Kenyatta, via the Executive Order Number 1 of 2019, appointed Matiangi as the Chairperson of the The National Development Implementation and the Communication Cabinet Committee. The board is composed of all Cabinet Secretaries, The Attorney-General and the Head of the Public Service who acts as the secretariat.

The Minister had served as the Eastern Africa regional delegate for the Centre for International Development(The Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy)the State University of New York before being appointed as the Cabinet Secretary for Information Communication and Technology on 23/ 04/ 2013. The Docter formerly lectured at Egerton University and the University of Nairobi. On 24th November of 2015, he was appointed in a cabinet reshuffle as the cabinet secretary for Education by The President(Uhuru Kenyatta).

Prior to joining the Kenya project, Dr. Matiangi taught at the English Department, University of Nairobi, held research and program implementation positions in several civil society organizations in Kenya and convoyed research and training for the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, the Parliaments of Ethiopia and the East African Legislative Assembly.
