Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has cut links with rebel Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa following a determination made by the National Governing Council on Friday, March 1.
Nevertheless, her Msambweni counterpart Suleiman Dori who was also placed on chopping board for disloyalty, survived by a whisker after he presented a sincere apology to the party leadership.
The Raila Odinga-led party confirmed Dori would appear before the council to present his case within coming 60 days.
“Party NGC unanimously votes to expel Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa from the party. The meeting however deferred the decision to expel her Msambweni counterpart Suleiman Dori following his letter in which he apologised to the party for his rebellion,” the party stated.
The two lawmakers have been on party radar for not toeing party lines, disrespecting its leadership and demonstrating support for Jubilee’s Deputy President William Ruto.
In a meeting held on December 4, the party’s disciplinary board recommended removal of the two Ruto’s associates for acting in contrary to the party constitution.
It now remains to be seen whether or not ODM will notify National Assembly Speaker to declare the seat vacant to pave the way for a by-election.
