As a person looking for a job in Kenya, working for the government or in any public company is a dream come true. You get satisfying allowances, benefits, and flexible working times. However, applying for such jobs is never simple. It is a complicated process, and the number of open positions is small. There is no timesaver or shortcuts when it comes to applying for public service commission jobs in Kenya.
If you are thinking of applying for any advertised position, the following guide shows how to go about the process. You can apply for a job in two ways:
Online on the Public Service Commission website
You can only complete your online application through publicservice.go.ke. Note that there are many websites with almost similar URL addresses. Most of them are run by cons who want to take advantage of unsuspecting job seekers. Use the official website to complete your application successfully.
Before applying for public service commission jobs, you need to ensure that vacancies are available. That is crucial because it will come in handy when completing your application. If the government has not advertised for any positions, you should wait.
When applying online, you must use Mozilla Firefox as the preferred internet browser. You will then need to follow the steps below.
Register an account
As a first time user, you must register an account with PSC. Account registration requires you to have a government issued ID number or passport. The system also needs your surname, email address, and a password. Your email address will be for future correspondence. The password is necessary for logging in to access your information and check your application status.
Apply for open position(s)
After registration, the next step is to apply for the advertised job. You need to log in using your ID or passport number and enter the password you created. Note that you cannot complete the next step if there are no vacancies. Your option would be to exit the site and wait for open positions.
Enter personal details
If vacancies are available, you must enter your details. The information needed includes:
- Personal details (name, age, nationality, location, postal addresses, phone numbers, etc.)
You will also need to provide more details before submitting your application. For example, you will have to answer whether you have ever been convicted of any criminal offence or you are a subject of a probation order.
Edit your information
You must ensure your application is correct. Otherwise, it will not be considered. The advantage with the online application is the system gives you an option to edit your information. If you made a mistake, go back and enter your public service commission login information. Edit the info and submit again. But you must do it before the closure of the advertised PSC jobs.
Print feedback report
After successfully applying for the position, you should print a copy of your application summary or feedback report. Click on the Application Summary link or Report Tab on the application menu.
You can also apply for an advertised position offline. To do it, you will have to download an application form from publicservice.go.ke. Go to the PSC Job Application form tab to find the document.
Filling the form
The application for employment form comes with many instructions you must follow accordingly. For example, you must complete all sections using BLOCK letters.
There are thirteen sections on the form. These include:
