– The Wiper leader want constitutional change to give Uhuru a third term in office

Wiper party boss Kalonzo Musyoka has once again strongly expressed his willingness to strengthen his working relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Musyoka who has recently been warming up to the Jubilee leader vowed to support constitutional amendments that will extend President Uhuru Kenyatta’s stay in office.

In his first public address since being appointed to monitor the peace process in South Sudan, he said he had no problem with such arrangement as long as it was anchored in law.

“I’m ready to support constitutional amendments that will see Uhuru stay in government extended even after his term ends in 2022,” he said at Komarock in Nairobi.

Whereas politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto have expressed their reservations on the emotive issue, Uhuru noted there was a need to end the winner-takes-it-all electoral competition.

According to the president, he and Opposition chief Raila Odinga were ready to set aside their differences so as to cure political wounds following the hotly contested 2017 General Election.

In September 2018, Raila Odinga confirmed the country could go into polls to fix the 2010 Constitution in terms of ending perennial electoral, judicial and governance crisis.

The referendum which is likely to cause political ripples in both the Opposition and the ruling party will be held sometime in 2019 as part of the unity pact between Uhuru and Raila.
