How to transfer money from Western Union to Mpesa

You can also withdraw your cash from Western union to Mpesa account in simple steps. Note that this must be facilitated from a western union agent like banks. Here is the procedure of Western Union to Mpesa money transfer.

  1. Visit a Western Union Agent near you
  2. Visit the agent with the following details;
    • Sender’s name
    • Where money was sent from eg, Uganda
    • Test question and answer (if set by sender)
    • Western Union Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN)
    • National ID
  1. You will then be issued with a form, fill and return the form to the agent
  2. Tell the agent that you want the money to be transferred to your Mobile money Wallet (M-Pesa)
  3. Sign the receipt issued by the agent
  4. The agent will then transfer you the funds to Mpesa

How to transfer money from Mpesa to Western Union

It wouldn’t be fair if I told you how to transfer money from western Union to Mpesa and not vice-versa. Well, here we go. Follow these steps to transfer money from Mpesa to western Union.

  1. Dial USSD *840#
  2. Select the ‘Western Union Location’
  3. Select ‘New Recipient’ option
  4. Enter First name’
  5. Enter Last name
  6. Enter Middle name
  7. Enter the Amount
  8. Pick Destination
  9. Enter 2 letter Country ISO (Where the user selects ‘Other’)
  10. Enter Purpose of funds
  11. Enter the source of funds
  12. Confirm transaction details and charges
  13. Enter Mpesa PIN
  14. Customer will then receive Mpesa SMS and another SMS with the MTCN from M-Pesa Global which should be shared with the recipient
